BFP members set up a table at this year’s Brooklyn Pride Fair in Park Slope. Even though the weather was wet, thousands turned out for this annual celebration of Gay Pride. BFP was well received and thousands of Cost of War flyers were distributed. People stopped to chat and express their interest in the organization. And families brought children to our table to design their own peace button. A special Brooklyn For Peace flyer, celebrating Brooklyn Pride was distributed as well.

Henry Kissinger spoke at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan on Tuesday, May 31. As National Security Adviser and Secretary of State, he was responsible for waging aggressive war, the mass bombing of civilians in Laos and Cambodia, and the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Allende in Chile, among other crimes. Outside the United States he is widely regarded as a “war criminal”. However, he has never been held accountable for his international crimes.

American culture is being poisoned by the failure to acknowledge and remember his war crimes and crimes against humanity and hold them to account. The 92nd St. Y properly insists on remembering and accounting for the crimes of Nazi Germany; it should not be forgetting and obliterating the crimes of US officials.

Peace shone bright and beautiful in Brooklyn on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Seventh Annual Brooklyn Peace Fair, hosted by Brooklyn For Peace. Hundreds flocked to the Brooklyn College Center at that campus in Flatbush to partake in forums, listen to music, discuss the issues and talk about building a stronger and more popular movement to end the wars and fight for new priorities: money for jobs, schools, health care, affordable housing NOT for endless wars!
