Brooklyn For Peace
Shows Some Brooklyn Pride

Jun 11, 2011

BFP members set up a table at this year’s Brooklyn Pride Fair in Park Slope. Even though the weather was wet, thousands turned out for this annual celebration of Gay Pride. BFP was well received and thousands of Cost of War flyers were distributed. People stopped to chat and express their interest in the organization. And families brought children to our table to design their own peace button. A special Brooklyn For Peace flyer, celebrating Brooklyn Pride was distributed as well.

Many street fairs fill our Brooklyn avenues during the summer. You’re invited to help bring our message of peace and justice to street fair attendees. To help out just call (718) 624-5921 or write to bfp@brooklynpeace.org.

Why We Protested Henry Kissinger at 92nd St. Y

Henry Kissinger spoke at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan on Tuesday, May 31. As National Security Adviser and Secretary of State, he was responsible for waging aggressive war, the mass bombing of civilians in Laos and Cambodia, and the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Allende in Chile, among other crimes. Outside the United States he is widely regarded as a “war criminal”. However, he has never been held accountable for his international crimes.

American culture is being poisoned by the failure to acknowledge and remember his war crimes and crimes against humanity and hold them to account. The 92nd St. Y properly insists on remembering and accounting for the crimes of Nazi Germany; it should not be forgetting and obliterating the crimes of US officials.

A Petition to the 92nd Street Y protesting Kissinger’s appearance is available for download here.

A flyer explaining the reason for the protest of Kissinger’s appearance is available for download here.

Tens of thousands of New Yorkers marched on Wall Street on Thursday afternoon, May 12, 2011. Directing their anger at the Billionaire Mayor and his Wall Street buddies, they demanded a People’s Budget that would cancel his proposed draconian cuts to schools, transit and child care. The Seventh Annual Brooklyn Peace Fair

May 7, 2011

Peace shone bright and beautiful in Brooklyn on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Seventh Annual Brooklyn Peace Fair, hosted by Brooklyn For Peace. Hundreds flocked to the Brooklyn College Center at that campus in Flatbush to partake in forums, listen to music, discuss the issues and talk about building a stronger and more popular movement to end the wars and fight for new priorities: money for jobs, schools, health care, affordable housing NOT for endless wars! Ceasefire in Libya, Humanitarian Intervention at Home

April 18, 2011

Brooklyn For Peace strongly opposed military intervention in Libya before the UN Security Council passed Resolution 1973 on March 17, 2011. Notwithstanding that we deplore the Qaddafi regime and its armed attacks on what was originally a peaceful opposition, we defend the opposition’s right to protest the current government and seek an alternative. Condemn Repression in Bahrain

We strongly condemn the Bahrain government, which has used brutal military force to suppress legitimate, peaceful protest. The Shi’a majority and many Sunnis are demanding democratic, seculf reforms and equal treatment in politics and the econony. Continue reading
